SPOTLIGHT – Pam Vogel has been with Origin CPA Group for 28 years and a shareholder for 19 years. Our team and clients value her professional expertise, genuine personality and passionate dedication. She truly exemplifies the values of Origin CPA Group, and we would love for you to learn more about her!
- What are the values that drive you?
Honesty, integrity, humor, curiosity, reliability, humility
- What inspired you to go into a tax career?
I was always good with numbers, details and math/accounting. But financial accounting can (in my opinion) get boring over time as it doesn’t change much. Tax adds the perfect layer of complexity, constant changes, challenges, and opportunity to really help clients in a more meaningful way. The consistently changing tax laws offer lots of career security too!
- What do you enjoy doing during off season?
Hiking, skiing, playing piano, reading, puzzles, and traveling ANYWHERE!
- What is your favorite part about working on the Origin CPA Group team?
I could never be a sole proprietor. Having a team, and specifically the Origin CPA Group team, is so rewarding. Everyone is helpful, encouraging of other team members’ successes and understanding/compassionate about mistakes. We get to know each other on a personal level, not just a co-worker level.
- What would you consider your greatest achievement?
Being a mom to three very humble, smart, polite, self-sufficient and genuinely nice sons. I know I will have left this Earth with three upstanding citizens.
- How do you cope with the stress of busy season and tax deadlines?
I set a daily set of intentions for both work and personal goals. The personal goal may be a walk around the block or a 15 minute break to work on a puzzle. Even on my busiest days I try to succeed by meeting most of my daily intentions.
I also break down the (historical) deadline of April 15 into four milestones – Jan 15, Feb 15, March 15 and Apr 15. Each 15th is celebrated as completing a deadline (even if it isn’t really a tax deadline), as doing things in one-month chunks feels more manageable. Finally, I front load hours on some weeks so that I can still get in ski days or outings with family/friends.
- In your opinion, what sets Origin CPA Group apart from other accounting firms?
The people, as well as our constant desire to learn/grow/change/strive to always improve. We want to be the best, not only for our clients but also for our team
- What is a hidden talent or fun fact about you?
Fun facts: I am a Boulder native. I have always had an obsession with maps, and it just dawned on me a few years ago that Pam backwards is… well…map.
Hidden talents: Maybe I’m a decent (read: very skilled) classical piano player. I will eat (or try) ANYTHING and could definitely win the food challenges on Survivor or Amazing Race. I’ve eaten a variety of bugs, worms, raw eggs, cow tongue, brain, Rocky Mountain Oysters, rattlesnake, octopus, duck liver, hákarl and many other things as dares or as delicacies.
- What is your favorite restaurant in Boulder?
I currently like Murphy’s South. However, I’ve lived in Boulder over 50 years so my favorite changes as restaurants come and go.
- What charity organization are you most passionate about?
